The actual owners and partners of The Box and La Esquina - particularly Serge Becker - quickly disavowed the gentleman in question (a Mr. Cordell Lochin) as having any real stake in either business, but described him as a consultant to the owners.

In the statement to this effect (as delivered by their publicist, Nadine Johnson), the following exceptional example of both spin and euphemistic brilliance appears: 

"He is a uniquely gifted social connector with a keen understanding of the subtle dynamics of a very fickle business."

And that, sir...is a GENIUS turn-of-phrase.
