This ad for a new room-renting service really has nothing to do with the service that allows you to find a room or apartment when you are traveling as opposed to some creepy hotel. Still, as it's the beginning of summer their timing is perfect. And while I wish the first guy wasn't sucking it in so much (as he is clearly my favorite), the surprise ending definitely got me interested in checking out the site (and posting my apartment as available for a week in July), so well done!

Civilization Progress Report: Vaughn Walker loves Good Hair.

There are a lot of Vaughn Walkers on Facebook, and most of them are not white! While most are very private (which goes with that "other" Vaughn's take on wiretapping) there is one Vaughn Walker that is out of the closet as a fan of Good Hair!  Anyway, we all pretty much know all about Reagan-appointed, gayish Judge Walker and his well-written finding, so let's check in with the rest of the world for the CPR.

Yes, Provincetown, and yes, I know Bear Week was last week.

Provincetown is calling me.  A house in the East End, not far from Commercial and Bradford's intersection and right on the water, already has my friends.  My work (the real money work) was too much to take a full week at the moment.  But yes, this hiatus is needed in the worst of ways, so no working, no blogging - just an exercise in relaxing.

Now about this time of year, Mister Andrew Sullivan tends to write a paean about Provincetown that is also about bears and Bear Week.  (Ah, yes.  There it is.  He could have at least credited Marc Johns (whose art we've also used).  Oh, Sully.)  Tons of our friends go to Bear Week, and they have a great time and more power to them.  The 'bear' thing is cute, but it's not for me.

Revelation - Europe is suddenly affordable again!

It's been years since Europe was affordable, hasn't it?  Thanks to our Greek friends though the Euro has fallen to a point (1.00€ = $1.269 today!) where we can go visit our Old World friends!

It's been out of consideration for so long though that it's been off the agenda.  Having been only to Paris and Stockholm, I have a laundry list:  Berlin, Rome, Barcelona, Madrid, Lisbon, Sitges, Cyprus, Malta, and so many more and not really in that order.  

Breathless, but excited, it's time to get out the old dusty trip planners and let the wheels start turning again.

Does everybody already know you on Fire Island?  Is Provincetown just a constant swirl of waving and hugging?  Consider the Catskills as a different place to get away this summer.  Here's a great guide to affordable places to stay in the region.

I guess the saying isn't "EveryTHING's bigger in Texas!"...?

Friends of friends and, well, some friends have recently started going on cruise ships.  Opinion?  They are not fyf.  This wrap-up of cruise ship stories ends with a common-sense point of view from someone that worked on Atlantis ships:
