So...this post starts with this clarification by The Oatmeal of the meaning of the word "literally" in which the late Rev. Jerry Falwell is quoted as saying, "If we do not act now, homosexuals will own America! If you and I do not speak up now, this homosexual steamroller will literally crush all decent men, women and children who get in its way...and our nation will pay a terrible price!" (Apparently quoted in this publication, though I can't find the actual citation or quote anywhere on the internet.). The point for The Oatmeal being: obviously there's no physical homosexual steamroller in existence LITERALLY rolling straight men, women and children flat before it (or at least there wasn't until Jerry Falwell made the ludicrous statement above.), therefore the use of the word "literally" there is incorrect.
The point for this post, however, has more to do with Rev. Falwell and his successors/philosophical heirs who still see us (homosexuals) - and our desire for simple acceptance and an end to harassment purely on the basis of our sexuality - as nefarious and alien infiltrators who will do everything in our power to undermine the larger society and bring about its destruction. Ironic, perhaps, given they and most of the larger society seem to have lost their minds!?
