It's Gay Christmas next Monday and, as Christians are wont to do with "the real" Christmas, we (gays) are viewing the fact it's on Monday as a chance to celebrate (if we choose to join this year, which I wasn't!!...and now am?! ...But that's another story.) ALL WEEKEND.
What to do, you ask? Happy to help! Here's some options:
Regardless of where you end up or what you look like, have a great one! Happy Halloween!

EVERYTHING IS SO SERIOUS RIGHT NOW. Or is it just me? Facebook friends have just been serving up all this great content about class, economics, banking and all of the big topics of the day. And Steve Jobs! And just the terror that any of the Republicans could ever be President again. It's just a lot to handle.
Meanwhile Halloween is twenty-five days away. Yes, Gay Christmas is coming back to save us all from the terrifying world in which we live. To get you geared up, here's a gallery of dudes at a haunted house taken with a hidden camera. It's a good time.

This guy made a costume inspired by Banksy's "Flower Thrower" that is startingly accurate/deceiving.
In a thread on the picture above, Mr. Schnakenberg posted the link to his Facebook album showing the preparations for the costume (and a rather handsome Mr. Schnakenberg!), as well as other shots of him out and about Halloween night in the costume.

And a three-day Halloween weekend? The realization of most photogs' full M.O. (multiple orgasm) fantasies! Judging by the Facebooks this morning, photographers from amateur to pro were hard at work documenting every second of every event, dress-up, dress-down, bathroom break, etc. over the weekend and their bounty is only now being unveiled! Revel in the visual deluge, my children!
Below are a selection from FYF Contributor Richard Weaver taken at Bloody Mary, Suzanne Bartsch and Desi Santiago's bacchanalia at Good Units under the Hudson Hotel. Light on Chilean miners but heavy on ornate, intricate, arguably creative costumes into which much time and thought apparently went, I think Bloody Mary lays good claim to being the orgiastic ideal most Halloween parties aspire to.
Richard Weaver is a New York City-based photographer.

Yes. That IS a Labryinth t-shirt!
What are you going to be (I still haven't a clue, but it's not likely to be either Luke Perry or David Bowie in Labyrinth.)?
Ancient Celts believed the membrane separating this world and the underworld, or afterlife, became thin and was breached by various spirits on All Hallow's Eve (they traditionally called it Samhain, I believe?). See, Samhain is believed to have marked summer's end (the word derives from the phrase for that in Old Irish, supposedly.), and the border between the "light" part of the year and the "dark" part may have seemed related to a thinning of this barrier between worlds. The spirits who came through could be harmless, but were also potentially harmful. Costumes were worn both as a means to confuse the harmful spirits and - by young men - to symbolize the spirits of family who had crossed over, that viewers might remember those who had passed and respect their memory.
So...what are you going to wear?
Regardless, here's what you might want to do:
FRIDAY (Tonight):
Ladyfag's new Clubber Down Disco returns for its second night with Honey Dijon DJing and Tai Chi, One-Half Nelson and Casey Spooner hosting. Ryan Smith at the door, whore! Word to the wise? Arrive on the early side. There's more than one reward (i.e. - entrance) awaiting you if you do.
Similarly, Mr. Rich King and Mr. Gustavo Motta offer incentive to arrive to their Snaxx shindig early. They'll be wigging out (as you should be!) but the beer will be free (from 10pm - 11pm)! Also popcorn, peanuts and a surprise!
Uptown at mine and Tai's (well, EVERYone's) old haunt - Rebel - Peter Rauhofer and the WORK! crew (DJs Corey Craig & Nita Aviance spin upstairs and Ms. Roze BLACK is BACK hosting the party!) throw a night of Hallo-weenie craziness.
Bana is back, but they've been kicked out of their Downtown Fulton Street baths location at the last minute so are moving the VIP portion of the party out to Brooklyn to the site of the original banya party several years ago that kicked the whole shebang off. The baths there are SITTing, is all I'll say. Oh and transportation is provided (via go-go equipped...or equipped go-go? party bus.) from 15th and 8th Avenue (in front of Starbucks) three times: 11pm, 12am, and 1am with two return trips at 3am and 4am. I think you may have to already have a ticket to ride the bus, so hit up the website for full information and the ticket purchase link.
There's (what seems like) a thousand other options, as well. Find the FYF Calendar for those.

Much of my extended family--relatives who are so distant that they believe that a trip down the aisle via Shaadi.com still remains a strong possibility in my future--use bizarre terms like "ladies' man" and "casanova" when I explain to them who my friends are these days, as it sounds like I'm reading off a laundry list of lady-loves. And sadly! mine is a culture where two members of the opposite sex can't seemingly just pass around a bottle of wine and wail along to Tori Amos' "Leather" without inviting implications of matrimony and suburban dreamscapes. But this week, I thought I would take a break from the usual bit of rubble-sweeping and doom-predicting and celebrate some lovely things that lovely ladies are doing that make this world a much better place for the rest of us to exist in!
• Secretary of State Hillary Clinton says China is not the enemy. She may have a point because it's not as if they've blocked their citizens off from playing Farmville entirely...they've just branded it differently. [NYT]

• Meanwhile, now that Padma Lakshmi has popped out a sprog, she likes to keep fit by running up 70 flights of stairs. [New York Daily News]
• SHE CAME TO HAVE A PARTY, BUT DO NOT OPEN UP THE BACARDI! Not to be outdone, Mariah Carey has taken to rooftops to announce that soon, she will also be popping out a sprog. [Daily Mail]

NY Mag has a fun slideshow "Dogs Looking Depressed in Their Halloween Costumes", but where they see depression is there not also quite a bit of resentment? Is the Antoine Dodson bulldog above merely saddened by his lot in life or thinking something more dark in scope? As for Sybil, she'll be a ballerina this year. She's a cat, so it's totally different.
