See it at Film Forum March 18th-31st and then contemplate how it lost out to Rocky for Best Picture. Then contemplate Woody Allen's remarks on the Oscars. Draw your own conclusions.
More Woody and the Oscars.

Scoopertino.com aims to take a bite out of Apple, but ends up serving sour grapes in my opinion.
In other news, punnery is fun!

A) This is one of my favorite Christmas songs ever.
B) I love Billy Bragg's voice.
C) I love Flo's voice.
That's more than enough.

Vivacious, lovely, sexy, real, natural, splendid, precise, quick, alive. Alive. Rue McLanahan was always so very alive. And it's because of that vivid liveliness that she brought to a room that makes her death so much more saddening.
While I've shared space with her before, we only met once, about ten years ago. She, along with Bea Arthur were at the GLAAD Media Awards. Because I was working for one of the sponsors, assorted celebrities would have their picture taken with me, which was a ridiculous thing really. In most of the pictures, I would simply shake a hand, smile with whomever and keep going.
Rue McLanahan was different. Her very nature had me opening up to her immediately. "You must get tired of doing this sort of thing," I prodded. She had nothing of my snarky note. "Nope. Nevah!" We took our turn with the PR fellow taking the picture, and we waited. There was a problem with the camera, and, wow, she could literally charm the paint off a wall. Suddenly I wasn't trying to be cool or witty, but just being real. As was she. We discussed the rigors of what she does, and the challenge of being 'on'. (It was no challenge for Rue; she simply was 'on'.)
The camera issue was resolved, and we faced the lens. Just before the flash went off, she took her full palm and gave my ass a generous squeeze. From the event, it was the best picture of me in the entire bit. My expression was shock and joy. Her face was coy, confident, alive - Rue.

I'm having a hard time reminding myself this kid - one Elian Gonzalez who you may remember from a little Moses-like episode with a tire down Miami way about 10 years ago - is but 16 years old. The last thing anybody'd accuse me of being is a chicken hunter, but he's definitely grown into quite the handsome young man! These pics have me fantasizing he'll need rescuing from another closet at some point (once he's legal) in the future.
Apparently, the Cuban government website posted some photos of the now celebrity (they celebrate his birthday - Dec. 7th - with parades!) at a Young Communist Union congress on April 4th and the photos (conveniently) made their way to American news sources like Google News.
Clearly they're taunting me us.

Backlash from the news Jennifer Lopez has been cast to appear in the remake of Overboard continues (and we...i.e. - anyone in the world who's gay, older-than-23, and remembers Goldie Hawn, will make sure it does until reparations - or whatever - are made!), and Defamer is taking a proactive approach by lining up 80s movies "suitable" for remake as well as offering their ideas for treatment/pitch. Most are imminently likable ideas and at least one is spot-on: Don't TOUCH Heathers, motherf----rs! Full list and treatments via.

Really? This was a rough one. Chaka Khan is an artist in so many genres: funk, disco, blues ... even country. "Ain't Nobody" is chosen here, because really, there is no one else like her, but there are so very many choices. What is the "definitive" Chaka song? Or is there one?

Thought the title for this post was somewhat clever/original (just a teensy bit?) last night when I wrote it...until I went back to the Bitches in the Sky website and noted the subtitle, "A Gender-Bending Photo Novella About The Filthy Rich".
Apparently I left out a hyphen.
Linda Simpson's engrossing soap operatic web-series is spot on and stars some of our favorite nightlife (and LIFE life) people. We highly recommend.

T Magazine agrees.
His genius ensures he'll live on as legend, but for those left here, my wish is for peace.
