A lyricist, composer AND blogger, Tony's a busy - and talented! - man. Get into the lyrics of this song entitled AvoiDANCE (No, like really in to!) from his song cycle (I believe it's called?) The Many, Many Men of Tony Asaro (It's the only musical number I've heard that includes a three-part harmony chorus listing of hook-up sites.).
He also wrote Our Country, a musical about a gay country music superstar on the downlow, that plumbs the premise for comedic gems and a well-stated social message to great effect.
For more Tony, check out his website, Unrelenting Monkey, for more hilariously poignant songs for the gays (and everyone?) and also his weekly blog post, Monkey Business (Did you catch the theme?), on Crazytown for ruminations on life's issues generally.
Why are we tooting Tony's horn today? It's a starving artist story of course, and - like in Rent (La Boheme, Burlesque, Showgirls, etc.) - Tony's making ends meet taking odd jobs in seedy establishments...i.e. - coat checking at the Eagle, so stop by Beer Blast this afternoon, hear Mr. Paul Ferrer's melodious music selections, quaff a cold brew and tip Mr. Asaro where it counts.
