Give yourselves a round of applause, you gorgeous little devils. You've nearly made it to the weekend. And this! This first week of March has truly been initiated by a stampede of unruly lions. And while the civilizations rise and collapse out there in the world, wonderful things, perhaps too microscopic in comparison, continue to happen too! Let's all peer at these small wonders through our magnifying glasses, shall we?
• Hagfish are a type of sea-beast that eat things by absorbing nutrients through its skin. In this way, they are more talented than us humans. We just get hives and wrinkles on our skin. [Wired]
• While we're on the topic of bizarre non-humans, there are four new strains of "zombie" fungi in the Brazilian rainforests that work thusly: They take control of an ant's brain, alter its behavior, and eventually cause it to die. [CNN]
• AWAY AT UNI More symbiotic then: Rutgers University, this week, has OKed co-ed living within a single dorm, validating the very existence of fag hags. [TIME]
• There was an awards ceremony of some sort last weekend and Joan Collins wore a gown that was not terribly flattering. [GoFugYourself]
• Also during the same ceremony, Josh Brolin and Javier Bardem shared a steamy liplock. It was cut from the television broadcast by ABC for being too ____________. [BuzzFeed]
• Ellie Goulding has a new single out! It is called "Lights"! The video for "Lights" is below! She comes to NYC's Webster Hall in three weeks! [Ellie Goulding]
• Several things that are amazing in Ke$ha's new video for "Blow": Unicorns, James van Der Beek (swoon!), rainbow guns, Meunster cheese, brassieres as comedic devices, and of course her shoes.
• Annie Leibovitz rustled up some A-listers, like Penelope Cruz and Jeff Bridges to shoot scenes inspired by Disney movies. [JustJared]
• The Scissor Sisters perform "Whole New Way" live. It's spectacular, obviously. [Prefixmag]
• And speaking of showstoppers, this week, we mourned the loss of Jane Russell--sex symbol and the very epitome of moxie. [Ed. - Granted, she was a raging Republican pro-life zealot in her later years, but, you know, all is surmountable.]
Rohin Guha is a writer in Brooklyn whose book Relief Work is exactly above-average. He will honor the memory of Ms. Russell by enjoying a repeat viewing of Gentlemen Prefer Blondes tonight.
